Judy sent this in, she says:

“these guys wander over here quite often, but I had the camera handy┬átoday. He was really crunching into the stone , obviously getting a bit of ant nest. He had rolled the stone over.”

I am from Soldiers Hill and I’m planning an appeal for development in our heritage street. I would just like to chat with someone about how to make a concise but compelling argument to stop developers from ruining our area. Obviously, your group has done something right in having a development rejected by council.

We have had some success with shaping developments out here in Ballarat East, I imagine they are very different concerns to your area, however the lessons are the same.

      1. get the neighbours involved, the wishes of those adjacent to the property will carry more weight than people in surrounding areas.
      2. letterbox, send letters, make phone calls, mobilise as best you can talk to the council officers about what their thoughts are
      3. become familiar with the planning laws and in particular about the heritage overlays in your area – its the law that will best help you.

Look closely at neighbourhood character and heritage overlays, yours is an inner city area in a town that lives by its heritage, others will want to help you protect it.

      best of luck
